Even though Pieter Breughel’s “Winter Landscape with Ice Skaters and Bird Trap” is very similar to Hendrick Avercamp’s “Winter Landscape with Ice Skaters”, both in title as in implementation. I will always be an enormous fan of Avercamp’s talent. He had a tough life but his persuasive endurance had shown to be profitable, although that was only after his death. Breughel was raised to be a wealthy, highly-skilled and experienced painter, following in his father’s footsteps. The fact that Breughel created this painting in 1615 of Holland’s winter landscape after Avercamp’s work that was finished 8 years earlier, proofs that hard work and talent exceeds any form of luck and wealth.
